Kentucky hoops commit is a three-sport standout who has chance to own state scoring records in two of those.

High school basketball star Maddyn Greenway of Providence Academy (Plymouth, Minn.) is breaking records in another sport. She scored her 204th goal in soccer earlier this week, giving her the state career scoring mark.

Greenway, committed to Kentucky, knows a thing or two about scoring, both on the pitch as well as the hardwood.

In 15 soccer matches this season, Greenway has 49 goals and nine assists for the Lions (13-3-1) as they chase a second-straight Class 1A title.

While basketball is her future, she told the Minnesota Star Tribune playing soccer is just about enjoying her high school years.

"Basketball, it's so much more pressure. People just expect a lot more out of each game," Greenway said. "For me, it was almost more validating, because I wasn't necessarily expecting that (the record). I kind of just went into high school soccer just trying to enjoy all the moments."

And if being a two-sport record-breaker isn't enough, Greenway also broke a Class 2A 300 hurdles record in June, winning a state title in 42.57 seconds. She anchored the state-winning 1,600 relay team (3:54) and finished sixth in the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 4 inches.

Greenway's younger sister Beckett joined her on the relay team.

Not only does Greenway now hold the career goals mark in soccer, which was her main sport until her freshman year, but she is about to battle for the Minnesota basketball scoring record.

She enters her senior season with 4,454 points and will likely duel with senior Tori Oehrlein of Crosby-Ironton (Crosby), who has 4,427 points, for the state mark. Both could wind up in the top 10 all-time as nine players in history have eclipsed the 5,000-point mark.

Minnesota, it should be noted, plays two 18-minute halves as opposed to four, eight-minute quarters and allows seventh- and eighth-graders to play varsity.

Greenway, whose father Chad played linebacker for 11 years with the Minnesota Vikings, has scored more than 1,000 points in each of the past three seasons. Providence Academy will be seeking its fifth-straight Class 2A title.
