Baseball Recap: Irvine Victorious

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Irvine and University, and Irvine kept the tradition alive. Irvine beat University on Tuesday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 4-1. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Vaqueros also won the last time the pair played back in March of 2024.

Irvine got a great performance from Drake Brito as he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. That's the fewest hits Brito has allowed since back in February.

On the hitting side, Alex Cho was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. Nico Macalino also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Irvine was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March of 2024.

The victory got Irvine back to even at 7-7. As for University, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 6-4.

Irvine will have a chance to go back-to-back against University: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
