Softball Recap: Mansfield Takes a Loss

If Mansfield was feeling good fresh off their 24-0 takedown of Mountainburg on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Tigers fell 8-4 to the Lavaca Golden Arrows on Tuesday. Tigers fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Golden Arrows since Tuesday.

Mansfield saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Abby Smith, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that Smith has hit this season.

Mansfield has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.4 runs over those games. As for Lavaca, their record is now 14-0.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mansfield will face off against Horatio at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Lavaca, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Gravette at 5:00 p.m.
