After a string of eight wins, Alma's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 48-47 to the Southwest Roughriders. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cardinals this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 45-36 back in December of 2024.

Alma lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Kamri Neal, who posted 11 points in addition to five assists and five boards. Chayse Molzahn was another key player, putting up three points along with nine rebounds and three steals.

Kyra Nelms continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Southwest, dropping a double-double on 13 points and ten boards. Nelms is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Aspen Billeter, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 13 boards.

Alma's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-4. As for Southwest, the victory (which was their 15th in a row) raised their record to 16-1.

Alma has already played their next match, a 48-21 win against Paxton on the 1st. As for Southwest, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 61-57 victory against Maywood/Hayes Center on the 1st.
