Basketball Recap: Elkhorn South's Luck Changes for the Better on Tuesday

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Elkhorn South). They took their match on Tuesday with ease, bagging a 93-43 win over the Bryan Bears. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 60-28.

Cooper Mroczek was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 20 points and 14 boards. The game was his fifth in a row with at least ten points. Sam Vander Linden was another key player, going 6 for 11 from beyond the arc on his way to 18 points.

Elkhorn South was working as a unit and finished the game with 25 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive matchups.

When it comes to explaining why Bryan lost, don't look at Deon Darnell. Despite the final result, he went 9 of 22 on his way to 27 points. Darnell is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Keyon Williams, who posted 11 points.

With the victory, Elkhorn South broke their nine-game losing streak and moved their record to 1-8. As for Bryan, they dropped their record down to 0-10 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Elkhorn South will host Bellevue East at 3:45 p.m. on Saturday. Elkhorn South has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Bryan, they will face off against Westview at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Westview knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past ten contests -- so hopefully Bryan likes a good challenge.
