Baseball Recap: Mullen Takes a Loss

Mullen had lost four straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped down to 7-15 to make it five. They fell just short of the Cherokee Trail Cougars by a score of 3-2. If the Mustangs were looking for revenge after losing 13-1 to the Cougars when the teams met back in May of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Mullen got a good showing from Rowan Henshaw, who tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.

As for Cherokee Trail, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-14. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games.

On Cherokee Trail's side, Tate Carlson looked comfortable as he pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The Cougars are 2-1 when Carlson allows one or fewer earned runs, but 6-13 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Landon Ellis, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two doubles. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Braden Anderson was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.

While Mullen had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:15 p.m. on Friday.
