Softball Recap: Union Local Comes Up Short

Union Local was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They fell 5-2 to the Martins Ferry Purple Riders. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Purple Riders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 on Monday.

Kylie Stidd spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Alli Kellaway was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run.

Union Local's defeat dropped their record down to 2-12. As for Martins Ferry, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 15-1.

Looking ahead, Union Local will be playing in front of their home fans against Buckeye Trail at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Martins Ferry, they will take on Brooke at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Purple Riders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bruins have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season.
