Baseball Game Preview: Phoenixville Phantoms vs. Upper Merion Area Vikings

Phoenixville has gone a perfect 10-0 against Upper Merion Area recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Phantoms will face off against the Vikings at 4:00 p.m. Phoenixville is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games.

Phoenixville proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by 12) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Spring-Ford, sneaking past 5-3.

Kevin Kingsbury made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits. Kingsbury was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

In other pitching news, Cadin Coleman looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Phoenixville is 3-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 2-3 otherwise.

Kingsbury wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Tommy Whitesel, who scored a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Upper Merion Area unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell 6-3 to Perkiomen Valley.

John Tomsho made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.

Upper Merion Area's defeat dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Phoenixville, they now have a winning record of 5-4.

Everything went Phoenixville's way against Upper Merion Area in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Phoenixville made off with a 9-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Phantoms since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
