Basketball Recap: Englewood Stem Comes Up Short

Englewood Stem was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their 11th straight defeat dating back to last season. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 22-19 heartbreaker at the hands of the Carver Challengers. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Panthers have suffered since December 13, 2023.

Leading Carver to victory were Journee Eggleston and Kennedy Wingfield. Eggleston posted nine points, while Wingfield earned eight points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Wingfield has scored at least a third of Carver's points.

Englewood Stem's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Carver, their victory ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-4.

After both having extra time off, Englewood Stem and Julian will shake off the cobwebs and face off against one another at 5:00 p.m. on January 8, 2025. Julian's defense has only allowed 26.3 points per game this season, so Englewood Stem's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Carver, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Chicago Vocational at 5:00 p.m. on January 8, 2025. Carver's offense hasn't had much luck over their past five matchups, but Wednesday's contest will give them a chance to turn things around.
