Baseball Recap: St. Augustine Catholic Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

St. Augustine Catholic can bid farewell to their nine-game losing streak dating back to last season thanks to their game on Monday. They never let the Santa Rita Eagles get on the board and left with a 21-0 victory. The Wolves' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Owen Ernle and Sergio Cordova made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Ernle pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Cordova tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in March of 2024. At bat, Ernle went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and seven RBI, while Cordova went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. The dominant performance gave Cordova a new career-high in RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Diego Perez, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Manny Rocha, who scored four runs.

St. Augustine Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .788. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Santa Rita only posted an OBP of .077.

St. Augustine Catholic's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Augustine Catholic will venture away from home to face off against Tombstone at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. As for Santa Rita, they will face off against Baboquivari at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Santa Rita is coming into the matchup on a 14-game losing streak dating back to last season.
