Basketball Game Preview: Erie Red Devils vs. Jayhawk Linn Jayhawks

The Erie Red Devils will head out to take on the Jayhawk Linn Jayhawks at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Erie will be strutting in after a win while Jayhawk Linn will be coming in after a loss.

Erie is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They really took it to Bluestem for the full four quarters, racking up a 72-28 victory. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Red Devils have posted since January 2, 2024.

Reid Duff continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 16 of 21 to rack up 36 points and five steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Erie's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaac Myers, who went 6 for 7 en route to 16 points.

Erie was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Meanwhile, Jayhawk Linn played a tough match on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 68-38 loss at the hands of Humboldt. While losing is never fun, the Jayhawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 260th, while the Cubs are ranked 67th).

The victory made it two in a row for Erie and bumps their season record up to 6-9. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to field goal percentage: their shooting accuracy was 48.6% in those games and 33.5% outside of them. As for Jayhawk Linn, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 7-8.

Erie was able to grind out a solid win over Jayhawk Linn in their previous meeting back in January, winning 50-37. Does Erie have another victory up their sleeve, or will Jayhawk Linn turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
