Preview: Briarwood Academy vs. Edmund Burke Academy
Edmund Burke Academy will face off against Briarwood Academy in a playoff matchup on Friday. The stakes are high as these two teams are all in, each fighting to extend its postseason success.
Things were close when Edmund Burke Academy and Southwest Georgia Academy clashed last Friday, but the Spartans ultimately edged out the opposition 21-18. The tight race was right in line with the MaxPreps rankings' forecast.
Meanwhile, Briarwood Academy earned some postseason bragging rights after a successful outing last week. They enjoyed a cozy 20-3 victory over St. Andrew's. Dax Reese had a stellar game for Briarwood Academy as he rushed for 111 yards and two TDs on 14 carries. Reese has now produced at least one touchdown in the past 12 games.
Briarwood Academy's defense was a presence as well, and it made life painful for the quarterback and got past St. Andrew's' offensive line for a total of four sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Daxton Kent and Barrett Johnson, who each racked up 1.5 sacks.
Edmund Burke Academy came out on top in a nail-biter against Briarwood Academy the last time the two teams met in November, sneaking past 24-21. Will the Spartans repeat their success, or do the Buccaneers have a better game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
