The Burgettstown Blue Devils are taking a road trip to take on the Laurel Spartans at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. Burgettstown is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.8 runs per game this season.

Burgettstown blew California out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Tuesday California got their revenge. The Blue Devils fell just short of the Trojans by a score of 3-1. The loss was the Blue Devils' first of the season.

Matthew Bredel was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He pitched seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one double. That double marked the first that he hit this season.

Bredel wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Sam Elich, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Laurel and Mohawk Area, and Mohawk Area kept the tradition alive. The Spartans fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 4-3 on Friday. The Spartans have struggled against the Warriors recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.

Kolton Carlson was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Luca Santini, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Having lost for the first time this season, Burgettstown fell to 3-1. As for Laurel, they now have a losing record of 3-4.
