Softball Recap: Astoria's Win on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Five

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Astoria). Everything went their way against the Tillamook Cheesemakers on Thursday as they made off with a 22-9 victory. With that win, the Fishermen brought their scoring average up to 7.2 runs per game.

Astoria got a massive performance out of Hailey Svensen, who scored four runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. Svensen has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kya Lindell, who scored four runs and stole two bases while going 5-for-5.

Astoria always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .689. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory was the fifth in a row for Astoria, bringing their record up to 7-2-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Tillamook, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-9.

Coming up, Astoria will face off against The Dalles at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Tillamook, they will challenge Scappoose at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Indians' pitching crew has only allowed two runs per game this season, so the Cheesemakers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
