The Corning Cardinals will square off against the West Valley Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, Corning came up short against Los Molinos and fell 9-4. The Cardinals haven't had much luck with the Bulldogs recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Miley Garcia was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one triple. That triple marked the first that she hit this season.
Meanwhile, West Valley entered their tilt with McKinleyville on Saturday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Panthers 15-2. That looming 15-2 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Eagles yet this season.
Aubree Wertz made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. What's more, she gave up only three walks, the fewest she's had since back in May of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 4-for-4.
In other batting news, Jenni Carroll and Coral Tozer did most of the damage at the plate: Carroll went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Tozer scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. Taylor Lowe was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
West Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. The last time their OBP was this high was back in May of 2024.
West Valley pushed their record up to 4-3 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Corning, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-9.
Corning couldn't quite get it done against West Valley in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 as they fell 6-2. Can Corning avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
