Softball Game Preview: Swansboro Pirates vs. Croatan Cougars

Swansboro has gone 8-2 against Croatan recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Pirates will take on the Cougars at 6:00 p.m. Swansboro is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.

Swansboro came into this matchup off a tough 11-run defeat on Thursday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of White Oak by a score of 9-7 on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Pirates have suffered since March 25th.

Addison McMillan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and seven unearned) runs on nine hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Payton Jensen made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-5 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Katherine Cahall, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Meanwhile, Croatan fell victim to New Bern and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They came up short against the Bears, falling 10-0. The defeat continues a trend for the Cougars in their meetings with the Bears: they've now lost five in a row.

Croatan's loss dropped their record down to 8-8. As for Swansboro, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-10.

Swansboro beat Croatan 7-4 in their previous matchup on April 4th. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pirates since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
