The Ramona Bulldogs will challenge the Brawley Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Ramona is coming into the game hot, having won their last seven games.
On Friday, Ramona earned a 6-1 victory over San Dieguito Academy.
Josh Luellen was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Cal Melendez was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Brawley's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell just short of Palo Verde Valley by a score of 10-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Wildcats have suffered against the Yellow Jackets since April 5, 2019.
Brawley also got a good showing from Aiden Philips, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Philips has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Jackson Brummet and Tate Preece stepped up to the plate in a big way. Brummet went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Preece went 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. Preece is becoming a predictor of Brawley's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 10-11 when he doesn't).
Ramona's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-7. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Brawley, their loss dropped their record down to 14-12.
