Nixon had already won nine in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 43.2 points) and they went ahead and made it ten on Friday. They blew past the Mission Veterans Memorial Patriots 92-36. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 286th, while the Patriots are ranked 1214th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Nixon's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Rey Mata led the charge by putting up 11 points and four steals. Those 11 points gave Mata a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Delapass, who went 6 for 9 on his way to 17 points.

Nixon is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 games, which provided a massive bump to their 23-9 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 82.3 points per game. As for Mission Veterans Memorial, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-15.

Nixon is taking a road trip to take on Cigarroa at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Cigarroa knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four matches -- so hopefully Nixon likes a good challenge.
