Football Recap: Elk Grove Comes Up Short

Elk Grove played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 54-14 defeat at the hands of the Hersey Huskies. The Grenadiers have struggled against the Huskies recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.

Hersey was led to victory by Jake Nawrot and Brandon Jenkins. Nawrot threw for 178 yards and four TDs while completing 81.8% of his passes, while Jenkins gained 110 total yards and four touchdowns. Jenkins also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, making five total tackles and defending one pass in addition to snagging an interception which he returned one-yard for a touchdown. Josh Riggs did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 91 receiving yards.

Elk Grove's loss dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Hersey, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 4-2.

Looking ahead, Elk Grove will take on Wheeling at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Grenadiers will be up against the Wildcats' rather soft defense (which has allowed 51.5 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Hersey, they will face off against Buffalo Grove at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Huskies will be up against the Bison's rather soft defense (which has allowed 42 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
