2A Conference 3 recap October 22, 2013
Maiden added to the longest winning streak in 2A Conference 3 this week by beating Bandys, 21-19. The victory was the eighth in a row for the team.
Newton-Conover fell to East Lincoln 48-7 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Jake McRee threw for 178 yards and 3 touchdowns. He went 12-28 with 0 interceptions.
Ricky Taylor was the best running back in the league this week. He ran for 95 yards on 16 carries as Maiden lost to Maiden. Teammate McRee added to the ground attack by rushing for 11 yards.
Frank Snider's team's McRee and Alex White led the league in both passing and receiving yards. 5-11 quarterback McRee has thrown for 2,016 yards this season, while White has 25 catches for 506 yards. The Mustangs' Chaz Surratt leads the league in rushing yards with 667.
The top two teams in 2A Conference 3 will face off this week when first place Maiden takes on second place West Lincoln. The Blue Devils topped Bandys last week, while West Lincoln beat West Caldwell.
Trent Lowman's team made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 8,801 from 9,208. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 21-19 victory over the Trojans last week.
