The Kankakee Valley Kougars are taking a road trip to square off against the Harrison Raiders at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Kankakee Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.
Kankakee Valley had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the eight-run drubbing they dealt Hanover Central on Wednesday. The Kougars were the clear victors by a 9-1 margin over the Wildcats. The Kougars not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since May 5th (when they won 12-4).
Jessica Beauchamp spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Julia Mahmet was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Patience Cole was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles.
Kankakee Valley hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 5-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Meanwhile, Harrison got themselves on the board against Benton Central on Thursday, but Benton Central never followed suit. They blew past the Bison 10-0. The Raiders haven't had any issues with the Bison recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.
The result came thanks to Lilly Kiefer's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up eight Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ashley Dunk, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Alex Waitkoff also deserves some recognition as she got her first hits of the season.
Kankakee Valley has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-10 record this season. As for Harrison, their record now sits at 7-10.
