Basketball Recap: North East Carolina Prep Takes a Loss

North East Carolina Prep was the 45-40 winner over Gates County when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The North East Carolina Prep Husky fell just short of the Gates County Red Barons by a score of 49-47 on Wednesday.

When it comes to explaining why North East Carolina Prep lost, don't look at Chadwick Barnes. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double with 15 points and 18 rebounds. The game was Barnes' third in a row with at least 15 points. Cicere Lancaster was another key player, putting up six points.

Even though they lost, North East Carolina Prep smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 41 consecutive matches dating back to last season.

North East Carolina Prep's defeat dropped their record down to 12-6. As for Gates County, they pushed their record up to 5-10 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

North East Carolina Prep wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 68-57 loss against Perquimans on the 31st. As for Gates County, they have also already played their next game, a 45-34 win against Bertie on the 31st.
