Sawyer Morgan and Lucas Kopetzky were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Morgan kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Kopetzky pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. At bat, Morgan got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three RBI and two runs, while Kopetzky went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI. Those two RBI gave Kopetzky a new career-high.
In other batting news, Stetson Hendren was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. He has been hot recently, having also posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was John Bingley, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.
Highland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They are 8-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Akron hadn't done well against Limon recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Rams blew past the Badgers 11-4.
Anderson Filla made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. Filla was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jax Kusel, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Merek Charney was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Highland has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Akron, their victory bumped their record up to 14-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Highland has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Akron struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
