Softball Recap: Belfast Extends Winning Streak to Five

Belfast came tearing into Wednesday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Nokomis Warriors by a score of 6-1. Six seems to be a good number for the Lions as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Jordyn MacKay spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Katience Parenteau was incredible, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Danica Gray, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Belfast's win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Nokomis, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Belfast will challenge Cony at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Nokomis, they will face off against Hermon at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Hawks will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Warriors surely won't give up without a fight.
