Baseball Recap: Weir Gets the Win

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Weir ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They won by a run and slipped past the Oak Glen Golden Bears 6-5. The Red Riders haven't had any issues with the Golden Bears recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Evan Kaczmarek was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 7.1 innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Weir got a big performance out of Cayden Braswell, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. The Red Riders are 2-1 when Braswell posts two or more stolen bases, but 7-13 otherwise. Teddy Glyptis was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

Weir's record is now 9-14. As for Oak Glen, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-12.

Looking ahead, Weir will welcome Buckeye Local at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Red Riders are facing the Panthers at the right time seeing as the Panthers are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Oak Glen, they are taking a road trip to face off against East Liverpool at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Potters have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.28 runs per game on average), something the Golden Bears will no doubt try to take advantage of.
