Basketball Game Preview: Medina Valley Panthers vs. Wimberley Texans

Having just played yesterday, the Medina Valley Panthers will head out on the road to face off against the Wimberley Texans at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. Both are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.

Wimberley is hoping to do what Stephenville couldn't on Friday: put an end to Medina Valley's winning streak, which now stands at three games. Medina Valley put the hurt on Stephenville with a sharp 58-36 win. The Panthers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matchups by 22 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Wimberley posted their biggest victory since December 29, 2023 on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Vanguard Academy Beethoven 80-36. Given the Texans' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 229th, while Vanguard Academy Beethoven are ranked 1140th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

The win was the third in a row for Wimberley, bringing their record for this year to 14-5. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.7 points per game. As for Medina Valley, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season.

Medina Valley came up short against Wimberley in their previous matchup back in December of 2015, falling 62-55. Thankfully for Medina Valley, Will Simpson (who went 12 of 19 en route to 32 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks) won't be suiting up this time.
