Softball Game Preview: Thornton Fractional South Red Wolves vs. Lemont Lemont HS

Thornton Fractional South hasn't had much luck against Lemont recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Red Wolves will square off against the Lemont HS at 4:30 p.m. Thornton Fractional South has given up an average of 14.5 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Thornton Fractional South is headed into Tuesday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Monday. They came up short against Tinley Park, falling 17-2. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Red Wolves couldn't push the score so high this time.

Lemont came out on top against Bremen on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive 12-run second inning. The Lemont HS put the hurt on the Braves with a sharp 17-5 victory. Considering the Lemont HS have won 11 contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Lemont let Ava Zdenovec and Emma Lagan run wild. Zdenovec went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Lagan went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Those three hits gave Zdenovec a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jessica Pontrelli, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one double.

Lemont always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bremen only posted an OBP of .385.

The win made it two in a row for Lemont and bumps their season record up to 11-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 7 runs in those games. As for Thornton Fractional South, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-12.

Thornton Fractional South suffered a grim 9-2 defeat to Lemont in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Red Wolves avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
