The Edison Chargers will head out on the road to challenge the Crestview Cougars at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Edison will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.
Edison had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt Vermilion on Wednesday. The Chargers put the hurt on the Sailors with a sharp 7-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Chargers, who have now won five matches by seven runs or more so far this season.
Crestview came out on top against Mapleton on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run third inning. The Cougars took their game against the Mounties 11-6. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since May 18, 2023, but that streak is no more.
Gavin Barker spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and five unearned) runs on five hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Crestview got a massive performance out of Kayn Patton, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, one run, and one double. Those three stolen bases gave Patton a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tyson Ringler, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Crestview kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in six consecutive contests.
Edison pushed their record up to 15-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games. As for Crestview, their record now sits at 6-10.
Edison took their victory against Crestview in their previous meeting back in May of 2023 by a conclusive 7-0 score. Will the Chargers repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
