Baseball Recap: Althoff Catholic Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Althoff Catholic, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They walked away with a 9-4 victory over the Valmeyer Pirates on Tuesday. The Crusaders have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Pirates, too.

Sam Roche looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Tyler Birdsong, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. He is becoming a predictor of Althoff Catholic's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 6-1 (and 10-13 when he doesn't). Evan Hoffman was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Althoff Catholic's win bumped their record up to 16-14. As for Valmeyer, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 9-16.

Looking ahead, Althoff Catholic will venture away from home to face off against Alton at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Valmeyer, they will host Dupo at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Pirates are facing the Tigers at the right time seeing as the Tigers are stuck on a 14-game losing streak.
