Volleyball Recap: Hayden Parsons and Ava Russell Secure Win for Gaston Christian + How To Watch

While Gaston Christian didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top against the High Point Christian Academy Cougars by a score of 3-1 on Thursday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 2-1 two weeks ago.

Gaston Christian had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. The match finished with set scores of 15-25, 25-18, 26-24, 25-12.

Leading Gaston Christian to victory were Ava Russell and Hayden Parsons. Russell had 19 digs, while Parsons had nine digs and three aces. Those 19 digs gave Russell a new career-high.

They weren't the only good server: Gaston Christian was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 18 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least six aces in six consecutive games.

Gaston Christian's victory bumped their record up to 6-3. As for High Point Christian Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gaston Christian will venture away from home to challenge Concord Academy at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. This will be Gaston Christian's first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for High Point Christian Academy, they will challenge Caldwell Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Cougars surely won't give up without a fight.
