Baseball Game Preview: Decatur Central Hawks vs. Whiteland Warriors

The Decatur Central Hawks will take on the Whiteland Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Decatur Central hasn't scored more than two runs for three games straight, a trend the squad is eager to reverse.

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Friday as neither Decatur Central nor Brownsburg made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Hawks fell 4-1 to the Bulldogs.

Logan Markus was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Decatur Central saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Zach Losito, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. Drew Dalton also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Meanwhile, Saturday just wasn't the day for Whiteland's offense. They fell just short of Seymour by a score of 2-0 on Saturday. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Warriors' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Whiteland also got a good showing from Ethan Engel, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits.

Decatur Central's defeat dropped their record down to 8-7. As for Whiteland, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 8-6.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Decatur Central has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Whiteland struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Decatur Central might still be hurting after the 16-6 defeat they got from Whiteland in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Hawks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
