Softball Game Preview: Summit Storm vs. Caldera

The Summit Storm are taking a road trip to square off against Caldera at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Summit hasn't scored more than two runs for four games straight, a trend the squad is eager to reverse.

Summit came up short against Bend on Tuesday, falling 16-2.

Meanwhile, Caldera was not the first on the board on Tuesday, but they got there more often. They blew past Redmond 15-5. The victory continues a trend for Caldera in their matchups with Redmond: they've now won four in a row.

Nina Santos Wagner spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks. Those six strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, Caldera got a massive performance out of Morgan Voll, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, two stolen bases, and three RBI. Those two triples gave Voll a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Analeigh Miller, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two triples, two stolen bases, and three runs.

Caldera was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .485. They are 4-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Summit's defeat dropped their record down to 2-6-1. As for Caldera, their record now sits at 4-9.

Summit suffered a grim 10-4 defeat to Caldera when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Storm avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
