Baseball Game Preview: Nottingham Northstars vs. Notre Dame Irish

Nottingham is 1-9 against Notre Dame since April of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Northstars will host the Irish at 4:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Nottingham sitting on three straight victories and Notre Dame on four.

On Tuesday, Nottingham needed a bit of extra time to put away West Windsor-Plainsboro South. They skirted past the Pirates 11-10. The Northstars' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Meanwhile, it was close, but on Monday Notre Dame sidestepped West Windsor-Plainsboro North for a 4-2 win. That's two games straight that the Irish have won by exactly two runs.

Liam Krimmel tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Josh Guire and Tommy Swietek did most of the damage at the plate: Guire scored a run while going 3-for-3, while Swietek went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI.

Notre Dame was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .458. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Nottingham's victory was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.7 runs over those games. As for Notre Dame, their victory bumped their record up to 8-2.
