Basketball Game Preview: Newman Grove/St. Edward Panthers vs. Riverside Chargers

The Newman Grove/St. Edward Panthers will venture away from home to take on the Riverside Chargers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Newman Grove/St. Edward is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Archangels Catholic on Tuesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Newman Grove/St. Edward was beaten by Archangels Catholic 54-26. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 237th, while the Defenders are ranked 83rd).

Newman Grove/St. Edward's defeat came about despite a quality game from Marcos Paez, who posted nine points along with six rebounds and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Reader, who had ten points.

Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Riverside over Palmer in every quarter on their way to victory on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Riverside blew Palmer out of the water with a 62-24 final score. With the Chargers ahead 30-7 at the half, the match was all but over already.

Riverside is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.0 points per game. As for Newman Grove/St. Edward, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season.
