Softball Game Preview: Northwood Chargers vs. Bartlett Yancey Buccaneers

The Northwood Chargers will face off against the Bartlett Yancey Buccaneers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Northwood comes in still looking for their first win of the season.

Northwood lost 11-4 to Jordan-Matthews on Tuesday.

Jasmine Wichowski was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and seven unearned) runs off seven hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Wichowski wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Allison Bryant, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI. That's the most hits Bryant has posted since back in April of 2024. Makenzie Robinson also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, Bartlett Yancey had to start their season on the road on Tuesday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They came up short against Chatham Central, falling 15-0. The defeat continues a trend for the Buccaneers in their meetings with the Bears: they've now lost eight in a row.

Northwood's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Bartlett Yancey, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1.

Northwood suffered a grim 15-7 defeat to Bartlett Yancey in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Northwood avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
