Basketball Recap: Heaven Jones-Cason's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Greer over Blue Ridge

After a string of three wins, Greer's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell 44-32 to the Blue Ridge Fighting Tigers. While losing is never fun, the Yellow Jackets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 127th, while the Fighting Tigers are ranked 45th).

Greer's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Heaven Jones-Cason, who posted five points and four steals. That's the most steals Jones-Cason has posted since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Heavenly Moore, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine boards.

Blue Ridge found their leader in sophomore Opal Maralit, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 steals. Maralit is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Grace Heaton also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assists of the season.

Greer's defeat dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Blue Ridge, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season.

Greer wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 61-47 loss against Daniel on the 28th. Blue Ridge has also already played their next game, a 67-29 victory against Pickens on the 28th.
