Softball Recap: Courtland Drops Highest Score of Season Against Chancellor

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Courtland). Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Chancellor Chargers a 20-0 shutout on Tuesday. With that victory, the Cougars brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.

Makayla Brooks made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Brooklyn Buchanan was a standout: she scored three runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Brystal Newman, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Courtland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .816. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Courtland moved to 3-5 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Chancellor, their defeat was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-6.
