Basketball Recap: L'Anse Takes a Loss

L'Anse was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were a single point away from ending the streak, but they lost a 56-55 heartbreaker at the hands of the Calumet Copper Kings. The Purple Hornets lost against the Copper Kings in their previous head to head back in February of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 55-23 score last time.

Despite the loss, L'Anse still got an impressive performance from Sam Lee, who went 11 for 23 on his way to 33 points and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kolyn Sweeney, who posted four points and four steals.

L'Anse's defeat dropped their record down to 8-7. As for Calumet, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-5.

L'Anse and Calumet could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Michigan Rankings. L'Anse (ranked 494th) will meet Dollar Bay (ranked 204th) at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Calumet will face off against Iron Mountain at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday down 308 places (355 vs. 47).
