Baseball Recap: La Center Continues Road Dominance on Thursday

La Center came into Thursday's matchup having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They had just enough and edged out the King's Way Christian Knights 5-3. This was a revenge game for the Wildcats: when they faced off against the Knights last Tuesday, they had to take a 9-5 defeat.

Gunnar Schockelt made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

In other pitching news, La Center got a great performance from Austin Aseph as he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. That's the most strikeouts Aseph has posted since back in May of 2024.

Back at the plate, Justin Fuller was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024. Wyatt Brannan also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

La Center's victory was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 6.6 runs this season. As for King's Way Christian, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 4-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. La Center will challenge R.A. Long at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for King's Way Christian, they will square off against Cascade Christian at 1:00 p.m. on April 5. King's Way Christian is facing Cascade Christian at the right time seeing as Cascade Christian is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
