Softball Recap: Justin Garza's Win on Wednesday Extends Winning Streak to Seven

Justin Garza put another one in the bag on Wednesday to keep their perfect season alive. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Mendota Aztecs a 10-0 shutout. Considering the Guardians have won five games by more than seven runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Gracie Uribe was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over 5.2 innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Aubrey Escobedo and Riley Nason did most of the damage at the plate: Escobedo scored three runs and stole Three bases. while going 1-for-3, while Nason scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4. That's the most runs Escobedo has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Lydia Rivera, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Justin Garza kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.

Justin Garza pushed their record up to 7-0 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. As for Mendota, they are on an eight-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Coming up, Justin Garza will host Fresno Christian at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Mendota has already played their next match (against Caruthers), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
