Softball Recap: Holton Comes Up Short

Holton had lost three straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped down to 2-7 to make it four. They fell 8-5 to the Sabetha Bluejays. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bluejays apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2025.

Faith Olberding was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one double. That triple was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kinsley Ingels, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

As for Sabetha, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-1. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games.

On Sabetha's side, Chloe Detweiler made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). Detweiler has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2025.

In other batting news, Regan Hasenkamp was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Kiera Keim was another key player, going 4-for-5 with three runs.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Sabetha beat Holton by a score of 5-4 later that day.
