Softball Recap: Redwood Christian Eagles vs. University Red Devils

After a string of three wins, Redwood Christian's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the University Red Devils. Redwood Christian was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as University apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2023.

Kate Goodson made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with a home run, three RBI, and a stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Micaiah Leyva, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

On University's side, Juliette Cuthbert made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. Cuthbert has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts every time she's pitched this season. Cuthbert was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Caroline Miller, who went 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Ella Weiss, who scored a run and stole two bases.

Redwood Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 5-7. As for University, they pushed their record up to 6-2 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season.

Redwood Christian will head out on the road to face off against California School for the Deaf at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. California School for the Deaf knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with flashy run totals in its past four contests -- so hopefully Redwood Christian likes a good challenge. As for University, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Lincoln at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
