Baseball Game Preview: Athens Indians vs. Morenci Bulldogs

Athens hasn't had much luck against Morenci recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Indians will welcome the Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m. Athens will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.

Athens barely beat Lawrence the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Indians were the clear victors by a 17-2 margin over the Tigers on Friday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Indians considering their two-run performance the matchup before.

Summerfield hit Morenci with a six-run fifth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. Morenci lost 11-1 to Summerfield. Morenci hasn't had much luck with Summerfield recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Athens' win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-12. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Morenci, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-13-1.

Athens might still be hurting after the 15-2 loss they got from Morenci in their previous matchup back in April of 2023. Can the Indians avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
