Basketball Recap: Shea Comes Up Short in High-Profile Contest with Ponaganset

On Monday, Shea faced Ponaganset in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Shea Raiders took a hard 59-42 fall against the Ponaganset Chieftains. The match marked the Raiders' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Shea's loss came despite strong showings from Tiyara Gonzalez and Zareia Colome. Gonzalez posted 18 points and four steals, while Colome put up 13 points and three steals. That was a full 42.9% of Shea's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points. Azilyn Medina was another key player, putting up no points and five rebounds.

Shea's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Ponaganset, their victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-1.

St. Mary Academy-Bay View will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Shea surely won't give up without a fight. As for Ponaganset, they will take on Cumberland at 2:30 p.m. on Monday.
