Baseball Game Preview: Fairfield Knights vs. Hanover Nighthawks

The Fairfield Knights will venture away from home to challenge the Hanover Nighthawks at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. Fairfield has now lost seven straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since the 9th.

On Thursday, Fairfield came up short against Littlestown and fell 6-1.

Fairfield saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jayden Bell, who went 2-for-4 with one run.

William Penn hit Hanover with a five-run fourth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Nighthawks fell just short of the Bearcats by a score of 8-6. The Nighthawks' loss continues a trend for the team, making it three in a row.

Colton Miller and Gavin Trish did some serious damage despite the final result: Miller went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs, while Trish got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Miller is becoming a predictor of Hanover's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 3-11 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Tim Wagaman, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Fairfield's defeat dropped their record down to 2-12-1. As for Hanover, their loss dropped their record down to 5-12.

Fairfield's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's game. The Knights have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Hanover, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Fairfield continue to outrun the ball?

Fairfield couldn't quite get it done against Hanover in their previous matchup on April 2nd as they fell 6-3. Can the Knights avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
