Softball Game Preview: Heights Bulldogs vs. Westside Wolves

Heights has gone 9-1 against Westside recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Bulldogs will look to defend their home field against the Wolves at 4:30 p.m. Heights will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.

Heights' pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by an 18-0 margin over Houston Math Science & Tech. Considering the Bulldogs have won seven matches by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Jessica Borrego made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.

In other batting news, Heights got a massive performance out of Victoria Carreon, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave Carreon a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Kendall David, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Westside fell victim to Cesar E. Chavez and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 18-0 to the Lobos. The Wolves haven't had much luck with the Lobos recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.

Heights pushed their record up to 13-7 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Westside, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-12.

Heights took their victory against Westside in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 20-0 score. Will the Bulldogs repeat their success, or do the Wolves have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
