Softball Game Preview: Cuyahoga Heights Red Wolves vs. Monroeville Eagles

The Cuyahoga Heights Red Wolves will challenge the Monroeville Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Cuyahoga Heights sitting on three straight victories and Monroeville on five.

Five must be Cuyahoga Heights' lucky number: they beat Maplewood with that score not once but twice on Friday. The Red Wolves beat the Rockets by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 5-2.

Meanwhile, two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Monroeville walked away with it. They put the hurt on the Flyers with a sharp 10-2 win on Saturday. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 17 matches by seven runs or more this season.

Veanna Helmstetter was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. Helmstetter was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Monroeville got a massive performance out of Taryn Tyler, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Payton Weilnau, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Monroeville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .312 or higher in five consecutive games.

Cuyahoga Heights' victory bumped their record up to 13-8. As for Monroeville, their win bumped their record up to 24-3.
