Basketball Game Preview: Mulberry Grove Aces vs. Brownstown/St. Elmo Eagles

Mulberry Grove is 1-9 against Brownstown/St. Elmo since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Mulberry Grove Aces will welcome the Brownstown/St. Elmo Eagles at 6:15 p.m. Mulberry Grove will be strutting in after a win while Brownstown/St. Elmo will be coming in after a defeat.

Mulberry Grove took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They came out on top against Maryville Christian by a score of 64-55.

Landon Sugg continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 30 points and 15 boards. His evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Icenogle, who posted 14 points.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Brownstown/St. Elmo's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They took a 60-45 bruising from Edinburg. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 467th, while the Wildcats are ranked 149th).

Brownstown/St. Elmo's loss dropped their record down to 9-8. As for Mulberry Grove, their victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-14.

Mulberry Grove didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Brownstown/St. Elmo when the teams last played back in November of 2024, but they still walked away with a 66-61 win. Does Mulberry Grove have another victory up their sleeve, or will Brownstown/St. Elmo turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
