Halifax Academy had lost three straight at home, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 4-12 to make it four. They came up short against the Southampton Academy Raiders, falling 14-4. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Raiders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-0 back in March.
Halifax Academy saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Riddick Bain, who went 3-for-4 with one run. Another was William Hudomint, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
As for Southampton Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. The result was nothing new for Southampton Academy, who have now won six contests by ten runs or more so far this season.
On Southampton Academy's side, Landon Cushing was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. Cushing has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his six plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Emerson Vaughan and Grant Applewhite did most of the damage at the plate: Vaughan got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Applewhite got on base in four of his six plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those four stolen bases gave Applewhite a new career-high. Owen Bailey was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Halifax Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Southampton Academy, they will host Tidewater Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Raiders are facing the Warriors at the right time seeing as the Warriors are stuck on a 14-game losing streak.
