Basketball Recap: Whitmire Wolverines vs. Thornwell Saints
The Whitmire Wolverines came into Monday's match having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They came out on top against Thornwell by a score of 27-19 on Monday. The victory was just what Whitmire needed coming off of a 48-16 defeat in their prior matchup.
Whitmire was led to victory by Brooklynn Babb and Trystan Samples. Babb scored seven points along with four steals, while Samples scored seven points along with six rebounds and five blocks. Alleigh Corley was another key contributor, scoring five points.
Whitmire's win ended a nine-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-17. As for Thornwell, they dropped their record down to 1-10 with that loss, which was their fifth straight on the road.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Whitmire will stay at home for another game and welcome the Hornets at 6:00 p.m. on February 7th. South Carolina School for the Deaf & Blind will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps South Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 625th, while the Wolverines are ranked 291st). As for Thornwell, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Hornets at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
